Why is that you might ask? First of all, we know our business. We have been selling these lanterns for a decade now.  We started small, with the idea of bringing a product to the market that  people preparing for the potential Y2K 'crisis' would  be interested in, and much to our surprise every year since 1999 the business has steadily increased, so much so, that this is all we do now. 

 

Here in Vermont, we have a saying, “small is beautiful”, and we like to keep it that way. This has always been a family run business and remains so today. Every part of the 'operation' goes on inside our own home! That really is my son and I unloading a shipment in the dead of winter. But don’t let our small size fool you. So what about our lanterns? Well all lanterns are not made equally, that’s for sure. Our lanterns are a solid medium weight brass and we do not have any brass plated tin models. Go ahead, do the magnet test, it wont stick to any of ours!  Most of our lanterns are made in India, the brass manufacturing center of the world. We deal directly with our manufactures, meaning there are no middlemen there to pass on price increases to you . I personally travel to India every year to meet with our producers. We discuss with them your comments and requests, both good and bad, and work directly with them on adjustments and new model designs.  We only do business with companies that are medium to small in size, have a mature and dedicated work force, pay their people a living wage and do NOT use any child labor, period. The personal relationships I have established with them ensures a steady supply of well made products that satisfy you the customer and the standards we have set.

 

Every lantern we offer is a meticulously handmade brass handicraft. They do not come from a big factory mechanized process, churning out zillions of products in zombie like monotonous work conditions. There is a personality and a person behind each piece. The lantern you see is the handwork of a charming, sincere, and hard working man who takes pride in his work. The whole process is very well organized and run by competent professional management teams, that insure not only the quality of the work, but the consistency as well.

 

Like a lot of Vermont companies and Americans everywhere, our family  is trying to make a difference in the world by helping people  who really need it. Keeping this in mind, we do whatever we can within our business to cut down on our 'carbon' footprint, and the senseless waste that can go on within a larger company. Every box that we  use to ship your orders in is recycled from a local business. The packing materials we use are primarily from the newspaper ends we receive from the local newspaper. Hundreds of these giant rolls of paper would otherwise be trashed! And of course, to save on electricity and gas usage, we burn our own lanterns!
