The miners lamp is a solid brass authentic Victorian-era oil lantern, sometimes called a Davy lamp or Welsh miners lamp. They were invented by Sir Humphry Davy in 1815, when these type of vintage oil lamps were used in the coal industry.
These mining lamps are for domestic use only and are not intended as a working miners safety lamp in real mining situations, but are solidly made for non-miner customers and have the essential look and feel of the real thing.
Nowadays they are often used as marine lanterns or as wall mounted oil lamps in the home. Also referred to as hurricane lamps, they are beautifully machined solid brass or antique brass and are very wind resistant.
The gimbal hanger (wall mount) allow for these oil lanterns to be mounted to any vertical surface, they look and work well just about anywhere.
